This guide is for participants whose session keeps loading, takes too long to join, keeps reconnecting, or drops them out. It focuses on what you can do from the app and what to try next when your connection is unstable.
What you'll see
When your connection is unstable, you may notice:
- the session takes too long to open
- the session screen keeps loading
- video or audio starts and stops
- a reconnecting message
- Reconnecting and restoring media streams...
- Join audio-only
- chat and hand raise still being the easiest tools to use
- the session dropping and forcing you to re-enter
Steps
- If the session is taking too long to settle, wait a moment for it to reconnect.
- If the reconnecting message appears, use Join audio-only if video is making recovery harder.
- Once you are back in, turn off your camera from the toolbar if the connection still feels unstable.
- Keep taking part through Chat and Raise hand while the connection improves.
- If the session drops completely, reopen the session link and join again.
- If you are using mobile private data and the session keeps cutting out, switch to a more stable connection when available, then rejoin.
What this means in practice
An unstable connection does not always fail in one obvious way. Sometimes the page keeps loading. Sometimes you enter and then get removed. Sometimes your audio and video keep breaking up. The app already gives you lighter ways to stay in the session, especially audio-only entry, chat, and hand raise.
If your session keeps reconnecting, the fastest way to stabilise it is usually to reduce how much the session has to carry on your connection. Turning off camera, staying on audio, and using chat for questions can help you stay present while the session recovers.
Limitations to know
- A weak connection can affect video before it affects chat or audio-only participation.
- Rejoining may still be necessary if your connection drops fully.
- Mobile private data may work well in one place and poorly in another, so the same session can feel different as your signal changes.
Common mistakes
- Waiting on a heavy video connection when Join audio-only would keep you in the session.
- Turning your camera back on too quickly while the connection is still unstable.
- Assuming you cannot continue just because video is not stable.
- Staying on an unstable mobile connection when a more stable connection is available.
If something isn't working
- If the session keeps loading, re-open the link and try again.
- If the reconnecting banner appears, use Join audio-only.
- If audio or video keeps cutting out, turn off your camera and keep using Chat or Raise hand.
- If you were removed from the session after a network drop, join again from the same session link.
- If you are on mobile private data and the session remains unstable, switch to a steadier connection if you can, then rejoin.
