How to Join a Session and Get Ready

This guide helps you get into a session smoothly and avoid common setup problems before the session begins. It is based on the screens and prompts you will see while joining.

What you'll see

Before you enter, you may see:

  • a preview area for your camera and microphone
  • a prompt asking for camera or microphone permission
  • Retry device access
  • Open device settings
  • Join audio-only

After you enter, the main session screen shows:

  • Microphone
  • Camera
  • Chat
  • Participants
  • Raise hand

Steps

  1. Open the session link in your browser.
  2. Enter the name you want other people to see.
  3. Check your microphone and camera before joining.
  4. If your browser asks for permission, allow microphone and camera access.
  5. If access does not work the first time, use Retry device access.
  6. If your browser or phone has blocked access, use Open device settings.
  7. If your camera is not ready but you still need to enter quickly, use Join audio-only.
  8. Once you are inside, confirm your microphone and camera buttons are in the state you want.

What this means in practice

Joining is not only about opening the link. The app expects you to confirm your device access before the session can work properly. If permissions are blocked, the session can still continue, but you may need to join with fewer features at first.

If you use Join audio-only, you can still take part in the session, hear others, use chat, and raise your hand. You are not blocked from participating just because your camera is not available.

Limitations to know

  • If your browser blocks microphone or camera access, the app cannot turn those on until you allow permission.
  • Some devices may show fewer options than others.
  • If your phone or browser does not support a feature, that button may not appear.

Common mistakes

  • Joining in a hurry without checking whether your microphone is muted.
  • Closing the permission prompt instead of allowing access.
  • Assuming the session is broken when the real issue is blocked device access.
  • Waiting too long to use Join audio-only when video is slowing down entry.

If something isn't working

  • If your camera or microphone is blocked, use Retry device access.
  • If that does not help, use Open device settings.
  • If the page feels stuck while your camera is trying to start, use Join audio-only.
  • If you entered without the setup you wanted, adjust your microphone and camera from the toolbar after joining.
