This guide explains how participants can share their screen when a session requires it. Screen sharing is conditional, so this article focuses on what you will see and what to do when the option is available or missing.
What you'll see
During a session, you may see:
- Share screen
- Stop sharing
- your own screen shown as the current presentation
- another participant shown as presenting
You may also notice that the screen share button does not appear on some devices.
Steps
- Join the session and look at the bottom toolbar.
- If Share screen is visible, your device supports sharing in that session.
- Open the document, tab, or content you want to show before you begin.
- Use Share screen when it is your turn to present.
- Keep the content you want to show in front while you are presenting.
- Use Stop sharing when you are finished.
What this means in practice
Screen sharing is something you confirm from the toolbar, not something that is always available on every device. If the button appears, the app is ready to let you present. If it does not appear, you should continue with the other session tools instead of waiting for it.
When you start sharing, the session may bring attention to your shared content so others can follow along more easily.
Limitations to know
- Do not assume every phone, browser, or device will support screen sharing.
- If the Share screen button is not visible, sharing is not available on that device in that session.
- Hosts can guide who should present, but they do not turn screen sharing on for you.
Common mistakes
- Looking for screen sharing on a device that does not support it.
- Starting to share before the content you want is ready.
- Forgetting to stop sharing after presenting.
If something isn't working
- If Share screen is missing, use Chat, Raise hand, or speak instead.
- If your device slows down while presenting, turn off your camera if you do not need it.
- If the session becomes unstable while sharing, stop sharing and rejoin only when ready.
