Otukpo is the main town of the Idoma people, in the south of Benue State. It is the seat of the Och'Idoma, the paramount traditional ruler of Idomaland.
The town is a commercial centre for the surrounding farming communities and sits on the railway line between Port Harcourt and the north. Idoma culture, with its masquerades, music and distinctive dress, is very much alive here.
