Argungu is a town in Kebbi State on the Sokoto River, about 45 km east of Birnin Kebbi. It is the seat of the Emir of Argungu and the historic heart of the Kebbi kingdom, which rose to power in the sixteenth century.
The town is known worldwide for the Argungu Fishing Festival, a tradition that dates back to 1934 and was added to UNESCO's list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016.
