Ikot Ekpene is the main town of the Annang people in Akwa Ibom State, about 30 minutes from Uyo. It has been an important market and administrative town since the colonial period.
The town is called the "Raffia City" because of its long tradition of weaving with fibre from the raffia palm. Its carvers are also known for wooden masks, especially those used in Ekpo masquerades.
